Where is the race located?
The event will be held at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg.  For driving directions, click here.

Where can we park?
6:00 a.m.: Event parking opens to participants and families. All participants must enter through the employee entrance, on Route 60, adjacent to the brewery. Be sure to allow plenty of time to walk from the parking area to the Start/Finish line. The Busch Gardens trams will NOT be running at the event.

When should I arrive for the race?
For the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows Family Fun Run: Plan to arrive no later than 7:15am. Fun Run start time: 8:00 a.m.
For the Christmas Town Dash 8K: Plan to arrive early. Traffic entrance will close at 8:00 a.m. and all traffic will be blocked. Christmas Town Dash 8K start time: 8:30 a.m.

What do I get for my race entry fee?
All 8K runners will receive:

  • Long-sleeved technical shirt for the first 2500 registrants
  • Custom Christmas Town Dash 8K finisher's medal
  • Coupon for 50% off admission to Christmas Town
  • Coupon for 50% off admission to Busch Gardens Williamsburg for the 2016 season

Bottled water, fruit & healthy snacks will be provided to all participants after the 8k.

Participants in the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows get a great personalized kids-only bib and a cool finisher's medal!

Can you describe the course?
This exciting 8K course through Christmas Town contains many hills, turns, and different surfaces. Please wear appropriate running footwear.

Will there be wave starts or corrals?
Yes, there will be wave starts or corrals for the Christmas Town Dash 8K. The corral that you will be placed in will be determined by the finishing time that you provided on your registration form. It is important to line up according to the corral that you are placed in. A chip embedded in your bib will time your run, so your time will begin only when you cross the start line.

Are baby strollers or pets allowed during the race?
Due to safety and insurance requirements within Busch Gardens, no strollers of any type will be allowed on the 8K course. Strollers are allowed during the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows Family Fun Run and in the spectator area.

Pets, bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, etc., are not permitted in the races.

Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc) allowed during the race?
The use of personal audio devices is strongly discouraged. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, Flat-Out Events encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the Christmas Town Dash 8K. As last year, Busch Gardens will be playing Christmas music in the park for your enjoyment.

Runner safety is a top priority for our event. Please be mindful of the other participants and respect the race personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone.

Are the races walker-friendly?
Registered walkers are welcome in the 8K. However, a brisk, athletic walk will be appropriate. The course will be cleared of participants by course marshals at 10:00 a.m.

How can I sign up for the running events?
You may register for the Christmas Town Dash 8K or the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows online.

How can I check if I'm registered?
You may check to confirm your registration here.

Will I receive a refund if I cannot attend?
No refunds will be given for any reason. No exceptions.

Can I transfer my registration to another runner?
No. Due to insurance and liability requirements, the new runner must complete a new registration.

Can I register on race day?
NO. There is NO race day registration!

Do you take credit cards for registration?
You may register with a credit card online through For mail-in registrations, we accept cash, checks, or money orders. Mail-in registration is $5 more than online prices.

What are the Age Group Categories and Awards?
Non-monetary awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners; and the top three overall male and female runners in each age group: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.  First place overall male and female will each get a 2014 Season Pass to Busch Gardens; 1st place overall in each age category will get a 2014 Fun Pass to Busch Gardens.

Running of the Cows Family Fun Run: There are no age group categories, and the run is not timed. Each registered participant will receive a finisher's medal when they cross the finish line.

Are the age restrictions on the races?
There are no minimum or maximum age restrictions on either event.

Packet Pick-Up
How will I receive my race packet?
Packet pick-up will be offered at four different locations! You will select your Packet Pick-up location when you register.

ALL registrants are able to pick up their race packets in Richmond on Wednesday, Virginia Beach on Thursday, Newport News on Friday, or in Williamsburg on Saturday. Pick which day & location works best for your schedule and we will see you there!

Walk-up race registrations will also be taken at packet pick-up for $55.

Do you take credit cards for registration?
Yes! Thanks to cutting edge technology, we sure do.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
Yes, please download the Packet Pick-Up Authorization Form and follow the instructions. You do not need identification to pick up for your spouse or child with the same last name; you need only to present your own identification.

Is there race day packet pick up?
NO! You must pick up your packet during one of the two days of Packet Pick-up!

At The Event

Where can I find a course map?

Will there be food or water at the finish line?
Bottled water, fruit, and healthy snacks will be provided to all participants after the 8K. 
Fun-run participants receive bottled water and healthy snacks.

Will Chick-fil-A be providing food at the event?
Because Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays, there will not be any Chick-fil-A provided on Race Day.  Each runner will receive a coupon for a Chick-fil-A Sandwich with their bib and shirt.  

What will the weather be like in Williamsburg during December?
COLD! The average high for December in Williamsburg is 52.6⁰F and the average low is 31.4⁰F.  Please check the weather the night before the race and dress appropriately!

Is there a Gear Check?
Yes, there is Gear Check!  We will put your belongings in a bag, write your Bib # and Last Name on the bag, and keep it secured for you during the race. This is for simple items like keys and sunglasses. Please do not plan to leave high-value items with the bag check; all items are left at your own risk. 

Will there be wave starts?
Yes! When you register, you will enter your average 1 mile time to place you in the appropriate corral. All walkers will need to place themselves in the last corral.

Is the race chip-timed?
Definitely. All of our races are timed using the 'B'-tag timing device. This tag is attached to your bib and records your time when you cross the Start/Finish line. For more information, read here.

Will a water stop be available on the course?
Yes, there will be a water stop about 1.5 miles into the course just before you enter the in-park portion of the race.  You will also access this water stop on your way out of the park at approximately mile 3. Water will also be available at the finish line.

Where can my family/friends cheer me on? Do they have to pay admission to Busch Gardens?
The spectator area is at the Start/Finish line area.  Please note that spectators will not be allowed inside the theme park.  There is no cost to be a spectator at the event.

Fun Run
Are there age requirements for the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows?
There are no age requirements for the Family Fun Run!

Where does it start?
The Family Fun Run starts at the 8K starting line, follows an out-and-back course and returns to an energy-filled finish with cows and cheerleaders!

Can I run with my child during the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows?
Parents may choose to run with their child if he or she needs help staying on course or is under 4 years old. Otherwise, we encourage you to stay at the start / finish line area to get great pictures!

How will I find my child after they finish the Running of the Chick-fil-A Cows?
We recommend deciding on a meeting spot for after the race. There will be over 400 participants in the Fun Run, and we don't want any lost children! Decide upon a place AWAY from the crowd--we recommend the Runner Resolution tent or the stage!

May a runner enter both the 8k and the Fun Run?
Certainly! The fun run will be completed a few minutes before the 8k start.

Christmas Town

Do we get a free ticket to Christmas Town with our registration?  No. However, there will be discount coupons distributed in each of the runner’s bags valid for 50% off a single-night admission ticket to Christmas Town.Additionally, each runner will also receive a 50% off coupons for a single-day admission ticket to Busch Gardens for the 2016 season. That coupon will remain valid from March 21, 2016 through September 7, 2016. 

Can I stay in the park on race day to see Christmas Town? No.  Once the race concludes, participants will be asked to exit the premises.  Christmas Town will not be open until later that evening. 

Do I need to buy a pass to Busch Gardens in order to run in the race? No, a pass to Busch Gardens is not required.  However, all runners must pre-register for the race by visiting or by mailing in a registration form. Mail-in registration is $5 more than online pricing.

Do Busch Gardens pass members get a discount on the registration fee?  No. The mission of the race is to raise money for charity.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots.

Toys for Tots
Why should I donate to Toys for Tots?
Since it began in 1948, Toys for Tots has delivered a message of hope and joy to millions of children across our nation. U.S. Marine Reservists dedicate their time and energy to local communities, and in so doing fulfill their desires to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas!

Flat-Out Events is proud to support such a wonderful organization and all donations will be given directly to children in need in our own local area. We look forward to overwhelming Toys for Tots with our giving this year!

How can I donate to Toys for Tots?
Easy! Just bring new, unwrapped toys to any Toys for Tots drop-off locations!

Should I wrap my toys?
Nope! Leave them unwrapped--Toys for Tots will take care of the rest.

Can I drop off toys at Packet Pick-Up?
You bet! Bring your toys when you pick up your race packet at any of our 4 locations. There will be a drop-box just beside the registration tables!

Can I drop off toys at the race?
Sure!  Toys for Tots will have a truck that we hope will be FULL by the end of the event!

Hate to ask, but do I get anything for donating?
Don't worry about it! Yes, you do! If you bring a new, unwrapped toy to Packet Pick-up or to the race, you will receive a special gift!

Our events are vibrant and growing, attracting increasing numbers of people eager to take part in our healthy, positive events. We cannot put on the best races without our sponsors. Our sponsorship levels are designed to make our sponsors an integral part of the event. We do our best for our runner, spectators, and sponsors and the results are nothing short of spectacular for everyone involved.

We don't have the capital to sponsor now, is there anything else we can do?
Sponsorship doesn't have to be monetary. An in-kind donation of products or services may be just as valuable. Does your business have something to offer? Can products or services be used as an incentive to participants? Be creative - there are countless ways to create mutually beneficial partnerships!

How can I volunteer?
It's easy! We have lots of jobs available--just check out the list here! Fill out the volunteer form and our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about helping out!

What do I have to do?
Job descriptions are on the Volunteer List, and we will give you more information when you contact us.

Do I have to register in order to volunteer?
No! Volunteering is just that--volunteering! This is a perfect opportunity for someone who doesn't want to run, or spend money to participate, but still wants to be in on the action!

I'm going to be at the race cheering someone on--can I still volunteer?
Sure! Just pick a job that will be fun and good for you and your runner! Water stop? Finish line? Gear check?

Do I get community service hours for volunteering?
Yes! We are happy to sign any community service forms for volunteers.

I have a (youth group, club at school, team, etc) that would like to volunteer--can we stay together?
Definitely. There are lots of opportunities for groups to volunteer together. Help is needed on the course, at the finish line, gear check, and parking! Just designate that in your Volunteer form submission!
